RIVERGOD
This was probably one of my favourite designs during my time at Oats Studios. I had the opportunity to design out the full evolution of the Rivergod, from his skeletal form to armored. It was such an odd idea that went through a lot of iterations, on top of that, it's definitely not what I usually do. At the end, I think it turned out better than I expected, especially after the touch of our Oats VFX team!
SERGEANT HINES
This idea started from a rough sketch by Neill, illustrating an exo suit with a bunch of small nozzles. The purpose of this suit is to prevent the Rivergod from altering reality, in return, giving Hines a chance to defeat him. The hardest part of this task was fitting the design into the appropriate time frame. Overall, the form needed to be fairly simple as oppose to a futuristic exo suit. Some of the earlier metallic versions were really cool, but they started to push towards the Iron Man realm. Our practical effects team did a superb job building this suit. The topless Russian man was a character that eventually didn't make it to the final film.
RUSSIAN AIRCRAFT
Now this was a difficult one. Neill wanted a MIG inspired Russian "transformer" that is able to switch between flight and ground mode. Eventually, we settled on the idea of it "only" turning into a turret. Our hard-surface modeler Jeff Tetzlaff did an amazing job modelling and figuring out the animation of the gun turret.
RUSSIAN WAR MACHINES
These were fun to sketch. No rules, just crazy Russian inspired vehicles. Most of these didn't make it pass the drawing board for obvious reason, but the giant war vessel did! Funny thing was, this was just a random idea I had that wasn't part of any briefs.
